Laurentian University program admissions suspensions this fall

Laurentian University suspending several programs this fall

Laurentian University is suspending several programs this fall, but they are not being eliminated as previously reported.

University executive director Isabelle Bourgeault-TassĂ© says Laurentian is not “dropping” programs.

She says Laurentian has suspended admissions to 17 low-enrolment programs, which means no new admissions to these programs, adding it does not affect students already in these programs.

She also wants to point out that admission suspensions to these programs affect options in French, but also in English and in Italian.

However, some faculty do not agree stating there will be a loss of French-language programming.

Laurentian is one of just a few universities in Ontario that offer French and other language courses, and the school’s faculty the association has filed papers in court in a bid to prevent the admissions from being cancelled.

However, returning students will still be able to complete their degrees.

The court decision is expected in the near future.
