Rainbow Board and ETFO occasional teachers reach contract

Occasional teachers could play an important role this year with the reopening of schools in a COVID-19 environment.

In light of the impending reopening of schools on September 8^th, the Rainbow District School Board and the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario have reached a three-year deal at the local level.

Board chair Doreen Dewar says occasional elementary teachers contribute to student achievement and have a valuable role to play in the delivery of education.

She says the new deal will be retroactive to September 1st, 2019 and expires August 31^st, 2022.

Dewar says the deal affects around 225 occasional elementary teachers in Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island.
