Island council moves to slow down speeders

The Northeastern Manitoulin and the Islands Township council has decided to act on a number of speeding complaints they have received over the last few weeks.

Township CAO Dave Williamson told council several complaints have been made, not only to police, but also to the town asking for something to be done about people speeding in town.

He says a radar speed indicator sign which flashes the speed of motorists going by costs under $10,000 depending on the model.

Williamson says council agreed to the motion to purchase the equipment, which will be placed in high speed areas throughout the township once it arrives.

He adds the cost will be covered out of the working capital reserve fund.
