Elliot Lake councillor has his say

Elliot Lake Councillor Ed Pearce wanted to explain to council why he withdrew a notice of motion about renaming streets in the city, but council would not allow him to do so under the procedural bylaw.
Pearce says that if it was adopted by council, there would have been a committee to make suggestions to council by the end of the year.
He emphasizes suggestions could or could not be accepted by council and there was no intent to change the names of streets that people live on or to honour past (or present) municipal politicians.
He says another media source implied that the committee was fait accompli, which was simply not true, but created a furor on social media leading to him withdrawing the notice.
Pearce adds he withdrew the notice of motion until a later date, when it is hoped cooler heads will prevail.
