Manitoulin Island Regional Energy and Emissions announcement

A major climate change project involving 25 communities on Manitoulin Island and the North Shore is the focus of an upcoming announcement.
Smart Green Communities is a program of reThink green, an organized group that focuses on collecting data to move towards reducing the carbon footprint of individual communities.
reThink Green communication director David St. Georges says the Manitoulin Island/North Shore Regional Energy and Emissions Plan is a collaborative project between 25 communities on Manitoulin Island and the North Shore over the last two years.
He says the plan paves the way for more work to be done in collection data as well as collaborating on ways to work with municipalities and First Nation communities in reducing energy costs and decreasing carbon emissions.
St. George says the project also took in the unique circumstances of each community when it comes to the effects of climate change.
More details will be released on August 11th in Little Current involving community leaders and other project proponents.
