Most of Northern Ontario depends on mining and forestry for its primary industries – but agriculture is also a big contributor. That’s why the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is funding eight farming projects across the north with $6 million. Three farming agencies in the northwest are each getting one million dollars while one in the Sturgeon Falls region receives $1.3 million. West Nipissing – East Sudbury Agricultural Support Projects will use the money to clear 2,300 acres of land and put in a tile drainage system. On Manitoulin, William Riach Farm in Gore Bay gets $29,000 for a tile drainage system on 60 acres. And a company from Sault Ste Marie receives nearly $1 million to clear 1,500 acres on Manitoulin for a tile drainage project.
