Espanola council eliminates another permanent full-time position, i.e. Public Works

Espanola council has cut yet another permanent full-time position, this time in public works.
Council eliminated the administrative assistant position last month, which came into effect yesterday.
Last week, they eliminated a full-time permanent position at Public Works.
None of the councillors who voted for the move provided any reasons for their decision at the meeting.
Councillors Ken Duplessis Ray Dufour, Heather Malott and Maureen Van Alstine voted for the elimination of the position, the same four that voted to eliminate the administrative assistant position.
Mayor Jill Beer, Deputy Mayor Bill Foster and Councillor Sandra Hayden voted in favour of retaining the position.
While the position was included in the 2020 budget, Councillor Van Alstine said it is up to management to work within the budget constraints.
The complement of 15 Public Works employees returned to work yesterday as part of Stage Three
reopening of services and facilities.
