Elliot Lake and Blind River issue fire bans

Elliot Lake and Blind River are the latest communities to put fire bans in place.
As of yesterday, both Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas and Blind River Fire Chief Ken Raymond
announced that due to the lack of rain and extremely dry conditions, there is a fire ban in effect for both
municipalities.
Chief Thomas says the fire ban means no burning or open flames are allowed and all burning permits are
cancelled.
Chief Raymond concurs adding no outdoor fireplaces, fire pits or campfires are allowed.
The Municipality of Huron Shores put a similar fire ban in place last Friday.
Espanola Fire Chief Mike Pichor says he is not putting a fire ban in place in Espanola due to the heavy
rain that moved through the local area on the weekend, but will review the situation mid-week.
Fire bans are a municipal responsibility and to find out if there is a fire ban in your
community, contact your local municipality or First Nation band office.
