Wearing a life jacket saves lives

OPP says seven of eight boating fatalities this year, including two on Manitoulin Island in May, were victims found to not be wearing personal floatation devices.
Half of the victims were in canoes – an important reminder that paddlers are at risk as much as other boaters.
Police say more than 80 percent of people who die on OPP patrolled waterways are found not wearing a PFD.
Officials add that PFD’s are one of the most under-utilized pieces of safety equipment used in seasonal outdoor recreation.
