Sagamok family loses house to fire

The fundraising to build a new home for two Sagamok-Anishnawbek First Nation members is underway.

Jessica Hardisty says the fire broke out Tuesday night and fortunately her 72-year-old grandmother and namesake Jessie Hardisty and her uncle, William Hardisty, escaped unharmed with their pet dog.

She says necessities, clothing and other toiletries have been provided by community members and they have found another place to stay for the time being.

A Go Fund Me site has also been set up by her sister Carri-Lynn to begin the process of building a new home on the site.

The home was uninsured.

$6,000 has been raised so far.
