Liberal energy plan is good… for now, says Elliott

The Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program is a good one, but only for the short term.

That’s according to PC Leadership hopeful, Christine Elliott. The program is meant to give large industries in the North a break on energy prices, with rebates up to$20M a year.

FONOM announced the program will be permanent in the upcoming budget, but Elliott says it’s a stop-gap solution.

“The Liberals have failed to come up a coherent energy policy,” says Elliott. “As a result, we have hydro rates spiking for both residential and industrial consumers.”

Elliott says it’s causing a lot of people to think about if they can continue doing business in the North.

She is calling on the Wynne government to create a coherent policy that will provide reliable and affordable power.
