It’s bad enough that a Sudbury man lost his big toe during a hunting trip, but to make matters worse he was fined for the incident. Richard Chamberland was hunting small game north of North Bay when he shot at a grouse on a side road off a secondary highway. Chamberland missed the bird and got back in his brother’s pick-up truck but without unloading his 12-guage shotgun. The gun went off hitting his big toe. Doctors couldn’t save the toe and it had to be amputated. A court fined Chamberland $750 for having a loaded gun in a vehicle and another $750 for discharging a firearm without due care for people and property.
