Decoration Day on Manitoulin Island

Manitoulin Island veterans will hold a Decoration Day of a different kind.
Royal Canadian Legion district public relations officer, Roy Eaton says this year’s Decoration Day will be
different due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Set for this Sunday, he says they will have a small contingent of people to lay wreaths and will also
produce a YouTube video for public viewing of the service.
He says usually Branch 177 Little Current and Branch 514, Western Manitoulin alternate hosting this
special day to pay homage to the men and women who served in our country’s forces and with our
allies, but this year will be a combined effort.
Eaton adds the Manitoulin Cenotaph was designed and built by Canadian veterans led by John C. Bryan
to commemorate fallen comrades who are buried in foreign lands, and across the way, the Women’s
Memorial honours all the women who have served or are serving in various corps.
