Wiikwemikoong and Elliot Lake are the recipients of four grants from FedNor.
In a release, the federal agency is providing the Wiikwemikoong Development Corporation a grant of just over $611,000 to support phase one of their Point Grondine Eco-Park Development.
Another $75,000 will go towards supporting an Indigenous Culinary Tourism experience, including an outdoor kitchen.
Meanwhile, the City of Elliot Lake is receiving two grants; one for $63,000 to hire an intern to implement the community’s strategic planning and tourism projects.
And just over $359,000 will go towards the construction of a multi-use water development area to improve access for local tourist operators.
In all, FedNor is supporting 36 tourism initiatives across Northern Ontario with $7.6-million in grants.
