Emergency child care centre opening in Espanola

A second emergency child care centre is opening in Espanola under the guidance of the Manitoulin-Sudbury District Services Board.

DSAB CAO Fern Dominelli says the no-cost emergency child-care service is reserved exclusively for children of essential and critical service workers as identified by the province, which is providing the funding.

He says there are a limited number of spots available at this time to ensure critical workers are available to continue their work in the community.

He adds those workers will be given priority.

Dominelli says the centre will open at Sacred Heart Public School next Monday as part of the Our Children Our Future program in the daycare.

The list for those who qualify can be found at www.ontario.ca/page/child-care-health-care-and-frontline-staff

Emergency child care is available at no cost for children ages birth to 12 years. Services will operate Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB continues to work with existing providers in the community to open additional facilities to support essential and critical service workers who may need access to child care.
