McKerrow Hotel demolished

A local landmark in McKerrow has been demolished.
Work crews took down the McKerrow Hotel, also known as the McKerrow Tavern, yesterday closing the final chapter in its history.
A historical building, it originally opened in 1910 as a typical railway station hotel to care for travellers from the station across the way.
The hotel was cut off from that station in 1920 when Highway 17, known then as the King’s Highway, was built between the two.
Over the decades, it gradually expanded and at various times functioned as a hotel, bar, coffee shop and roadside restaurant.
Needing major repairs, it was closed about a decade ago and never re-opened.
