The MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing is relieved that federal funding has come through for Algoma Central Railway. But at the same time Carol Hughes says the feds should not have waited until the 11th hour to grant the money. The Conservatives will provide $5.3 million over three years to keep ACR from derailing. Sault Ste. Marie city council and other groups have maintained multi-year funding will give a third party time to grow the passenger service. At the end of three years, the feds will look to see if there is growth before it ponies up any more money. One concern that Hughes has is because the money is less than what was requested, she hopes that doesn’t impede passenger growth.
