What Elliot Lake mayor Dan Marchisella calls a dark era for the community has ended. A chamber that was used to gas animals to death has finally been demolished. Marchisella says the issue has come up repeatedly in the past and also came up during the last municipal election campaign. Many residents opposed the chamber saying it was inhumane. Although it hasn’t been used the last couple of years, the chamber was more than 30 years old. Marchisella and several residents took sledge hammers to the concrete structure on Tuesday and then the rubble was hauled away.
