Algoma University embarks on a new era. It’s named its first-ever chancellor and she’s a former grad of the post-secondary school. Shirley Horn graduated from Algoma in 2009 after returning to school. Horn is the chief of the Missanabie Cree First Nation. In the 1980’s she was one of several people to found an organization that drew national attention to the issue of Indian Residential Schools. Horn is a victim of those schools. Born in Chapleau, Horn begins her four-year term when she’s officially sworn in as chancellor June 13th.
