Day of Mourning marked in Espanola

Workplaces will mark the National day of Remembrance across Canada today.

Espanola’s Domtar Mill human resource manager Teresa Miller says COVID-19 protocols will be followed when company workers mark the day.

Miller says a wreath will be laid at the main entrance worker’s memorial site, the flag will be flown at half-mast and a minute of silence will be held.

The three local unions: Unifor Local 74, Unifor Local 156 and IBEW 956 will also lay wreaths.

She adds the National Day of Mourning is a day to remember the dead and those injured on the workplace, but it is also a call to protect the living and make a workplace thrive.

Miller says Mill Manager Carol Lapointe will also be speaking to the workers.
