Taxpayers in the Municipality of Huron Shores are being offered a tax deferral due to COVID-19.
Clerk Administrator Deborah Tonelli says council held a special meeting last week and endorsed a motion to defer any penalty charges on tax installments due on March 31st and May 29th due to financial hardship.
However, she says any taxpayers that are able to pay their bills on the due dates are asked to do so. The deferral will remain in place until August 1st. She says the council will be reviewing the matter at its May 13th meeting.
In order to protect taxpayers and staff from the virus, Tonelli encourages tax payments to be made electronically. Ratepayers may call the Municipal Office, at 705-843-2033, to discuss the options available and for assistance if required. If staff is not available, leave a message in order that they may return calls as soon as possible.
All individuals who have provided post-dated cheques or have set up pre-authorized debits (PADs) will have the option to defer those payments by contacting the Municipal Office or by e-mailing:Â [email protected].
