A resident of St. Joseph’s Villa tests positive – COVID-19

A resident of a long-term facility in Sudbury has tested positive for COVID-19.

On Sunday, an outbreak was declared at St. Joseph’s Villa in Sudbury after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Yesterday afternoon Public Health Sudbury & Districts reported a new COVID-19 case in a resident in her 80s, bringing the total confirmed cases in the Public Health service area to 46.

CEO Jo-anne Palkovits says the resident is doing well, has no symptoms and remains in self-isolation.

She adds they understand this is very worrisome news to hear; however, they reassure staff, residents and their families that the risk of infection throughout the facility remains low.

All 64 residents who live on the first floor of the Villa where the employee worked have been tested for COVID-19 while the employee is currently recovering at home.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe says she is Sudbury’s 46th case.

She says the unit continues to work closely with the villa and additional control methods are in place.

Dr. Sutcliffe adds all residents and staff who came into contact with the employee have been tested while the employee remains in self-isolation recovering at home.
