Manitoulin-Espanola OPP investigates 28 domestics in March

Domestic abuse investigations have seen a sharp spike in the Espanola and Manitoulin Island area.

Manitoulin-Espanola OPP Constable Renee Lalonde says the agency investigated 28 domestic-related incidents last month alone with nine of them resulting in someone being charged with criminal offences.

She says some of the charges include threatening death or causing serious bodily harm, assault and threats to property.

Lalonde says the names of the accused are not released to protect the identity of victims, but she also stresses that the OPP are available to deal with any crisis.
