Individual volunteers throughout the Manitoulin and Sudbury districts are busy these days … at home, making masks.
Janeanne Gilbert of Espanola is just one such volunteer who is making up to five masks a day.
She is providing them free of charge to health care workers who need them.
Gilbert adds delivery is through her dropbox to maintain physical distancing and anyone wanting a mask can contact her on Facebook to make arrangements for pickup.
Gilbert adds she is also accepting cotton fabric and elastic to continue the work.
It is recommended all donated masks be washed before use.
Individuals who have made masks in other areas of the district are welcome to donate them as well through local networks, volunteer groups and individuals but to keep in mind physical distancing is a priority in delivering the masks for those who need them.
The Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary is just one group that is working individually at home to make masks.
Judy Mackenzie says they will arrange for pick-ups of finished masks or donations of materials.
All masks that are collected, she emphasizes will be immediately sent to a private laundry service to be prepared for use.
Mackenzie adds if anyone is able to contribute fabric (cotton) or elastic (1/8in) it would be appreciated.
