Under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act now in effect, OPP officers in the Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury districts will be enforcing the law when people defy the protocols put in place in the fight against COVID-19.
Provincial media relations coordinator, Staff Sergeant Carolle Dionne says the Provincial Offences Act has been updated to include three offences to be enforced by police, which also includes hefty fines.
Dionne says anyone not following the law in regards to limiting to 50 people or less can find themselves charged.
She says failing to comply could mean a $500,000 fine for any corporations or businesses defying the order, $750 for individuals and $1,000 for obstruction.
The new legislation came into effect last Friday.Â
