Local teachers and education workers on the picket lines in Espanola yesterday said they will stay out as long as necessary.
They say the one-day strikes are not about money, but about the quality of education adding the new deal from the government has not presented at the bargaining table, but only at a news conference.
Premier Doug Ford is blasting the teachers’ unions for not agreeing to suspend their strikes.
Earlier this week, Education Minister Stephen Lecce announced that the government would agree to limit average class sizes to 23 students, and make e-learning courses in high school optional.
But the government won’t change its offer of a one-per-cent pay increase.
In return, he wanted the unions to suspend their rotating strikes.
Ford says the unions’ decisions to continue the walkouts show they’re striking for more money, not for the quality of education.
