Tax increase for ratepayers in Blind River

After a couple of years of seeing little, if any, tax increases, ratepayers in Blind River will be paying more this year.

Mayor Sally Hagman says council approved the budget this week calling for a 3.8% overall increase to the mill rates, which translates to about $65 more taxes for a home assessed at $100,000.

She adds the operating budget came close to $10-million with another $3.6-million as part of the capital budget.

Capital projects include reconstruction of local roads and sidewalks as well as the purchase of two new service vehicles.

The overall tax levy for this year is nearly $6-million.
