Federal health officials say travellers from Iran are now being asked to self-isolate for two weeks when they return to Canada.
The move comes after several of the 27 cases of the coronavirus reported in Canada were connected to the outbreak in Iran.
People travelling from central China have already been asked to check with immigration officials when they arrive home.
Canada’s chief public health officer, Doctor Theresa Tam, describes the Iranian link as “very disturbing.”
Of the cases in Canada, 18 are in Ontario, eight in B-C, and one is in Quebec.
The number of new coronavirus cases outside of Canada continues to soar.
In South Korea, more than 51-hundred people are now reported to be infected.
The World Health Organization is sending assistance to Iran, which now has more than 15-hundred cases.
And Senegal is reporting its first confirmed case, the second country in Africa, south of the Sahara.
World Health Organization officials are particularly concerned about the potential spread in Africa, where health care resources are far less developed than other parts of the world.
Closer to home, the Sudbury and Algoma district Public Health Units have been kept up-to-date on a daily basis in regards to reported cases, protocols and will continue to be vigilant for any of the cases showing up in the North.
