An Espanola family is receiving assistance from a group of volunteers called Team Blake.
Group spokesperson, Taryn Bond, says the group has assisted 11-year-old Blake Bond and his family through two bouts of cancer, and now Graft versus Host Disease.
She says Blake and his mother travel regularly to Ottawa and Toronto Sick Kids for his treatment involving serious side effects from anti-rejection drugs, which manifested after a bone marrow transplant last year.
Taryn says there will be a special hockey game at the Espanola complex at 6:00 pm this Saturday, as well as a dance at the Elks Club the same night with all proceeds going to the family to cover extra costs not covered by any support program.
Team Blake hockey games: Admission into the game will be $5 per person. There will be a 50/50 draw, door prize, snacks for sale as well as Blake merchandise.
At 8:00 pm, there will be a fundraiser dance held at the Espanola Elks Hall featuring Nautical Beats DJ Service and the Showponies. Tickets into the dance can be purchased for $10 each by contacting Taryn Bond at 705-862-1561, the Espanola Complex, The Beer Store, Proactive Lube, and Jax’s Laser Spa or by contacting one of Blake’s family members.
