Rivermen contract could affect autism awareness

An Espanola resident who does a lot of autism work in the community doesn’t know how he can pull off future events without the Rivermen.

Dennis Lendrum was reacting to town council terminating the contract with the junior hockey team two years before it’s up.

Lendrum says the recent Autism Acceptance Day is a good example of the Rivermen helping him and his volunteers.

He says the team provided 165 game tickets and helped with lunch, swimming and bowling to create a day- long event.

Lendrum hopes town council takes note of this.

Lendrum also says owner Tim Clayden regularly gave him 10 free hockey tickets he then gave to families with autism who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford to take in a game.
