Indigenous Minister visiting Whitefish River First Nation

The community of Whitefish River First Nation will be hosting the federal Indigenous Minister.

Minister Marc Miller will be greeted by chief and council today in Birch Island.

He will take a tour of the Shawanosowe School including its new daycare, which just opened, as well as taking in some carnival activities.

His visit will also include a community luncheon with members of the band and invited guests, as well as talks with chief and council on band matters.

Keen on Indigenous matters and as a Member of Parliament, Miller made history in 2017 when he delivered a statement in the House of Commons entirely in Mohawk, marking the first time the language had been spoken in either the House of Commons or Senate since Confederation.

Elected out of the Montreal area in 2015, before he entered politics, Miller was a practicing lawyer with a focus on international and commercial law, as well as served as an infantry soldier with the Canadian Armed Forces.
