Area school closures this week due to labour unrest
Several schools in the Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury districts are affected by strikes by three teachers’ unions this week. Three of the four school boards in the Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury districts will see job action by members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.
Rainbow District School Board elementary schools are closed today and tomorrow.
Algoma District School Board elementary schools are closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
And, the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon (French Catholic) schools will close both elementary and secondary schools on Thursday, due to increased escalation by both the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation and the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (French Catholic elementary teachers union).
The job action also affects all Grade 7&8 programs at secondary schools, Rockhaven School and adult literacy programs in the various boards.
The two unions are escalating job action after talks broke down with the provincial government.
