Elliot Lake Alzheimer’s Walk a huge success

It only took 45 minutes for several people to raise thousands of dollars for the Alzheimer Society of Canada – Elliot Lake chapter.

Society special events manager Jessica Diamond says 55 walkers raised an astounding $7,697 as part of the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s held in Elliot Lake this Saturday.

She says the walkers collected pledges and then took a 45-minute walk around the host school, Elliot Lake Secondary.

Diamond adds the money all stays in the local area to support programming overseen by the society.

There were speeches by SSM & Algoma Alzheimer Society Executive director Terry Caporossi, MPP Michael Mantha, a speech read on behalf of MP Carol Hughes who was unable to attend. Jessika Diamond, the manager of special events and sponsorships for the Alzheimer Society of Canada also made her way up from Toronto for the day for the event. They were supported by local businesses’ donations of food and various prizes. There was also live music provided throughout the event by local band “Front Porch”. A special thank you goes out to the RBC for their donation of $1,000 and support for the annual event. Photos provided by Aaron Ferguson – myalgomanmanitoulinnow.com staff
