A new lab for testing food and related products will open in late winter in Sudbury to assist local producers in Northern Ontario.
Capella Innovation of Sudbury lab manager and president, Luce Laplante says the lab will assist Northern Ontario food producers to ensure they maintain the highest level of food safety, as required by Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
She says, with $200,000 in funding support from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, the lab will be able to review and provide the highest national and international standards for nutrition labeling, sensory evaluation, and microbiology with state-of-the-art equipment.
Laplante adds new businesses are encouraged to access the company to assist them with launching and ongoing testing of their products, adding the range is wide from beer and wine, honey and cheese to meats and fish.
