A ribbon cutting marked the opening of Mississagi Provincial Park. The park was one of several in Northern Ontario slated to close because of low usage. However politicians banded together and the result was a five year deal between the City of Elliot Lake and the province to keep the facility open. Under the deal, Elliot Lake absorbs the cost for managing the site which remains a provincial park.
