Noront Steel Limited located in the Walden Industrial Park has been fined $70,000 plus a 25% victim surcharge in connection to critical injuries to a worker at its steel fabrication facility.
Noront Steel pleaded guilty in Sudbury court yesterday.
Testimony revealed back on August 24th, 2018, the worker was cutting drainage holes into a drum with a torch when it exploded into flames causing him serious injury.
An investigation by the Centre for Forensic Sciences determined the barrel contained flammable substances although it had been labeled non-combustible.
