The Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre in Elliot Lake will be demolished to make way for redevelopment.
City CAO, Daniel Gagnon, says council held a special meeting to accept four bids for the demolition of the building, which has been closed for nearly a year following a partial collapse of the roof.
He says the lowest bid was accepted coming from Colin’s Haulage of Hanmer for $205,250 plus taxes.
Gagnon adds the cost will be covered from the recent insurance settlement of just over $3.5 million.
He adds the property will be prepared for redevelopment but did not provide a timeline when the work will be carried out.
