NEMI lobbying for more Hwy 6 passing lanes

A Manitoulin Island municipality is looking to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation for consideration of more passing lanes between Espanola and Little Current.

Northeastern Manitoulin & the Islands township council passed a resolution to submit the request to the government following a letter from a local taxpayer.

Perry Newman states that the drive on Highway 6 is dangerous, especially with the increased volume of heavy trucks into Spider Harbour, and the damage they cause, as well as more motoring tourists in the warmer months.

Council will send the request to the Ontario government for consideration.

Newman adds he will also be contacting MPP Mike Mantha about his concerns.
