Health care programs no longer 100% covered

Many health programs will move from 100 percent coverage to a 70-30 split in the New Year.

Nickel Belt NDP MPP France Gélinas has called on the Ford government’s Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, to cancel planned public health cuts that take effect on January 1st.

Gélinas says the Ministry of Health might be saying there are no cuts to health care but adds that’s not true under the government’s new cost-sharing formula.

Gélinas adds some programs that were totally covered will now only receive 70 percent of their budget and municipalities will have to pay the remaining 30 percent.

She says Healthy Babies Healthy Children, Infectious Disease Control, Healthy Smiles Ontario and Smoke-Free Ontario are just some of the affected programs.
