West Nipissing man arrested after CBSA seizes package

A call from the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) to the OPP has led to the arrest of a Sturgeon Falls man.

The CBSA indicated they had intercepted a package that contained a sound suppressor for a firearm with the mailing address set for Quesnel Road in Sturgeon Falls.

Early last week, officers from the Sudbury OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) and the Northeast Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) searched the residence via a search warrant. As a result of the investigation, a 53-year-old man from Sturgeon Falls has been arrested and charged with:

  • Importing a Prohibited Device (2 counts)
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon

Officers took two prohibited devices (suppressors) and six firearms from the home as well.

The man has since been released with a promise to appear and will attend the North Bay Courthouse on December 5.
