Two Manitoulin Special Olympic contributors rewarded for their work

Two Manitoulin Island individuals, one a coach, one an athlete, have been recognized by Special Olympics Ontario at its recent annual general meeting and awards night.

Coach Janet Anning received the President’s Award while Manitowaning’s Matthew Bedard was named Male Athlete of the Year.

Anning, who also is the co-ordinator for Manitoulin Special Olympics as well as a coach, has been part of Special Olympics activities since 2006 and has sent four athletes to compete at the world games.

Bedard was selected for his award due to his outstanding athletic abilities in both summer and winter events, as well as being a role model for his fellow athletes.

All of the winners from the Ontario ceremony will be considered for the national awards level at Special Olympics Canada.
