A former Elliot Lake councillor has been removed from a city commission she sits on as a volunteer.
As part of the Integrity Commissioner’s Report carried out in Elliot Lake, it was recommended that former councillor Tammy Van Roon be removed from her volunteer position on the city’s Residential Development Commission and that a letter of complaint also be sent to the Real Estate Council of Ontario outlining her breaches of confidentiality.
The sanctions were part of the recommendations made by E4m, the legal firm acting as Integrity Commissioner for the city.
Van Roon appeared before Elliot Lake council this week but stormed out of the meeting when she was told she was out of order for addressing the original complaints and not the sanctions as stipulated by the act.
Following her leaving, the council amended the motion voting in favour of not making a report to the Real Estate Council of Ontario since the majority felt it was not their place to affect anyone’s livelihood.
However, the council did vote in favour of having Van Roon removed from the city’s commission effective immediately.
