Elliot Lake Landfill site part of murder investigation

The OPP Criminal Branch is continuing its investigation into the murder of an Elliot Lake man.

OPP Constable Phil Young says OPP forensic teams are at the city landfill site looking for evidence into the murder of 62-year-old James Lee Money.

On August 11th, human remains were found in the city and they were confirmed to be those of Money who had not been seen since the fall of 2018.

Money had gone missing in late summer of 2018 but was not reported missing until this Spring.

Thirty-four-year-old Shawn Cote of Elliot Lake was arrested in Vancouver in September and charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.

Young says as part of the ongoing investigation the landfill remains open, but the area being searched is cordoned off from the public to ensure police are able to carry out their duties.
