Pearson Civic Centre might see the wrecking ball depending on the outcome of discussions by city committees. Photo supplied by Sue Grieves. Demolishing the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre and building a new structure is a go with Elliot Lake council. City CAO Daniel Gagnon says the centre is insured for up to $9 million and although they have not received a final settlement from the insurance company, there will be money to demolish the centre and build a new one. Gagnon adds the cost for a new centre would likely range from $8 to $12 million. He adds there are also several funding agencies available to help assist in the rebuild. Gagnon says they would also salvage what they could to be reutilized in the new building.
