Demolishing the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre and building a new structure is a go with Elliot Lake council.
City CAO Daniel Gagnon says the centre is insured for up to $9 million and although they have not received a final settlement from the insurance company, there will be money to demolish the centre and build a new one.
Gagnon adds the cost for a new centre would likely range from $8 to $12 million.
He adds there are also several funding agencies available to help assist in the rebuild.
Gagnon says they would also salvage what they could to be reutilized in the new building.
