Rivermen leaving NOJHL

After one season the Espanola Rivermen are leaving the NOJHL.  Team owner Tim Clayden says the team will still play in Espanola next season but as part of the Central Upper Peninsula League in Michigan.  Clayden says this way his players will get NCAA exposure.  He’s moving because he opposes Hockey Canada’s decision to phase out American players in the NOJHL saying it diminishes the talent pool.  He says to make up the shortfall, he believes NOJHL teams will raid players from the Great North Midget League and he says that’s wrong.  Clayden has told the owners and league of his decision to leave.
