OPP lays weapons charges against motorcyclist after stop

A routine stop for speeding over the weekend ended up escalating quickly. Manitoulin OPP stopped a motorcyclist for speeding on Highway 6 in Espanola Sunday evening.

As a result of an investigation, a 39-year-old man from Cartier Township has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of Undertaking
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition, contrary to Prohibition Order (four counts)
  • Speeding
  • Driving While Under Suspension (two counts)

The motorcycle has been impounded for seven days and the accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on November 4.
