The City of Elliot Lake is taking over ownership of the former White Mountain Academy of the Arts building. The building fell under the ownership of the Northern Institute of the Arts and was managed by a board of directors. But Mayor Dan Marchisella says considering it’s the city that pays the facility’s bills, it was time for a change. Marchisella says under the city’s ownership, streamlining at the facility is better plus the board of directors don’t have to worry about liability issues. Liability was an issue because Marchisella says the directors were’n’t covered under the city’s policy. The city isn’t paying anything for White Mountain because it has a lien on the property worth almost $1 million and also paid for more than $800,000 in expenses the building incurred.
