The Integrity Commissioner for the City of Elliot Lake has found there is no basis for an allegation of conflict of interest against Mayor Dan Marchisella.
Councilor Chris Patrie made the complaint that Marchisella stood to gain financially from his long-time friendship with Corey Mackenzie, the owner of AstroRabbit Entertainment and his plans for a music festival in the city.
Patrie’s basis for the allegation was that Marchisella had promoted Mackenzie’s company several times during council meetings and that the mayor was giving him preferential treatment when it came to city resources.
However, E4M Investigator Sean Sparling and Commissioner Peggy Young-Lovelace found there was no basis for the allegation also pointing out Patrie was an unwilling participant in the investigation, which is a breach of the Municipal Act and the City’s Code of Conduct.
Still, with the story, Mackenzie has canceled the concert and ticket holders will receive their refunds by the end of September.
