Espanola police are warning area residents about an Air Miles Rewards phone scam. First you get an automated call saying you’ve won a large number of Air Miles and then you’re connected to a live person. It’s here that people get scammed. The con artist tells you that in order to collect the Air Miles he needs your Air Miles Rewards PIN so they can deposit the miles in your account. Don’t give out your PIN because once you do, the caller can steal your Air Miles. Local police say three people got Air Miles type calls but none fell for the scam.
