Preliminary hearing: woman charged with theft from Espanola Legion

The Espanola courthouse will be the scene of a preliminary hearing looking into the theft of thousands of dollars from a local service club.

Espanola Police charged a former local woman with theft of more than $30,000 from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 in August 2017 following a nine-month investigation.

Police began that investigation in October 2016 obtaining a warrant for bank records.

It was found over $30,000 had not been deposited into two Legion bank accounts, which were used for local charitable causes.

Fifty-three-year-old Anita Everett-Hunt was charged with one count each of theft over $5,000 and theft under $5,000 in August 2017.

The hearing begins at 10:00 am this morning at the Espanola courthouse.
